It is with great pleasure that we as a municipality present to the community our first-ever 15 Year Community Sustainable Development Plan. The City of Portage la Prairie created the 15 Year Community Sustainable Development Plan to define a forward-looking pathway for policy development and strategic decisions that integrate the cultural, social, economic, and environmental values and needs of the City and its residents. This plan will provide direction and guidance for future decision making towards a sustainable future.
The City’s 15 Year Community Sustainable Development Plan was created through an open and collaborative process, with input received from local residents, businesses, representatives of community organizations, City staff, and City Council. These groups had the opportunity to reflect on and address questions related to where our community is now, where we would like it to be in the future and how we can get there. The result of this planning process has provided a basis for future growth and change, while maintaining our small town appeal.
The plan will serve as a resource to Portage la Prairie City Council and hopefully future Councils to support and guide annual budget and capital planning and City programming decisions.
The final plan was accepted by City Council at their September 26, 2016 meeting.
