City Manager
The City Manager is responsible for directing and managing the business affairs of the City in accordance with by-laws, policies, resolutions and plans enacted, established and approved by City Council.
Economic & Community Development
The Economic and Community Development Department is primarily responsible for the following corporate function areas: business retention, expansion, and attraction and path finding; land related services including all matters relating to development agreements, land sales, land purchases and general inquires; and administration and management of the Island of Lights program.  
Finance
The purpose of the Finance Department is to safeguard the City’s Investment in assets and services through the provision of accurate and timely information to our internal and external customers.
Operations
The Operations Department’s primary function is to maintain the City’s infrastructure – roads, drainage, water, sewer, boulevard trees, parks, Crescent Lake, recreational facilities and cemeteries. The Operations Department also provides services such as water supply, sewage treatment, garbage collection, and recyclable collection. Operations acts as a technical support to other Departments within the City for such things as land development and the provision of infrastructure data.
Public Safety
Fire Services:
Portage Emergency Services proudly protects over 20,000 people living in an area covering approximately 850 square miles. Our Fire Station is located at 124 3rd Street NE in Portage.
Police Services:
The Portage la Prairie RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) is the local police service. We are proud in our traditions and confident in meeting future challenges, we commit to preserve the peace, uphold the law and provide quality service in partnership with our community
