The City of Portage la Prairie wishes to provide an update to the community about water billing delays.
In October, we notified you of billing discrepancies in Area 1 and Area 3 water bills resulting from conflicts between our financial software and the new water meter reading software. Those discrepancies were corrected and revised bills were regenerated and reissued. As a result, our billing cycle was delayed.
In addition to these delays, staff are double checking calculations and verifying meter reads on 1,300 accounts in the upcoming Area 2 billing cycle, prior to mailing out the water bills. Although this has caused a slight additional delay, we feel it is an important and necessary step to ensure the software conflicts have been resolved and billing is accurate.
Area 2 water bills (north side of Saskatchewan Ave to the railroad tracks) are expected to be sent out the week of January 23, 2017 and will encompass an 8-month billing period (May 2, 2016 – January 10, 2017). The due date on these water bills has been extended to reflect the extended billing period. Interest is not charged on accounts and penalty will not be applied if accounts are paid by the due date shown on the water bill. Any regular payments you have made to your account will be reflected in the “credit” portion of your water bill.
Once the Area 2 water bills have been mailed, staff will begin working on the Area 3 and Area 1 billing areas.
We encourage all citizens to continue to make regular payments on their accounts despite not receiving a water bill.
We recognize and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause our citizens and are working very hard to resolve these issues and get back to our regular 3 month billing cycle.
