Portage la Prairie RCMP ask the public to be aware of an increase in the use of Fentanyl

The Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking that the public be aware of an increase in the use of a drug which causes unpredictable side effects. Several incidents involving Fentanyl, a highly potent and addictive synthetic drug, have been reported to local police. Fentanyl is used to manage severe pain, but it is illegal to possess without a prescription. The drug is up to 100 times more potent than morphine, and can cause respiratory failure or death, if taken with other drugs or in unmanaged doses. For further information on the dangers of Fentanyl you can visit http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/qc/pub/sens-awar/drogue-drug/depress-eng.htm

Members of the public are asked to contact the RCMP if they know of illegal activity where Fentanyl is concerned. Cash rewards can be given for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of people involved in this illegal drug trade. Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and www.manitobacrimestoppers.com
