The City of Portage la Prairie will be enacting a number of preventative measures aimed at helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to minimize its impact on our health care system and in our community.

We encourage all members of the public to visit https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/coronavirus/index.html, which is being updated daily by the Province of Manitoba with information on its response. Health-related questions or concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus) can also be directed to Health Links – Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257.

The health and safety of our employees and the public, as well as maintaining essential services, are our top priorities. As such, the following City Facilities will be closed to the public effective immediately:

  • Operations Department
  • Water Treatment Plant
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Fire Department

The Fire Department is always accessible to the public in the event of an emergency, however, if your inquiry is of a general nature please consider contacting them by telephone at 204-239-8340 or email at firehall@city-plap.com.

City Hall will remain open to the public. However, we ask that you carefully consider if attending City Hall is necessary or whether your business could be conducted by phone, email or web service. For more information on our e-services and online options, please call 204-239-8309 or visit our website at http://www.city-plap.com/cityplap/departments/finance/.

Effective immediately, all members of the public attending City Hall will be asked to apply hand sanitizer provided upon entry. City of Portage la Prairie staff have been instructed to practice safe social distancing when interacting with customers (minimizing prolonged contact of more than 10 minutes or close contact less than two metres/six feet) and would encourage all public accessing our facilities to practice the same. We are requesting that individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms not enter City facilities.

The City of Portage la Prairie is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to evaluate our approach and inform the public of any changes.

We thank you very much for your cooperation.
