The City of Portage la Prairie has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Policy that requires all City employees to be fully vaccinated by February 13, 2022, or undergo regular ongoing testing starting February 14, 2022.

The COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Policy came into effect on January 4, 2022 and requires employees and members of Council to submit proof of vaccination by January 14, 2022. To date, 90 per cent of full-time City employees and all of City Council have confirmed that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Employees who do not confirm their fully vaccinated status, choose not to get vaccinated, or are undergoing the vaccination process but are not yet fully vaccinated by the deadline, will be required to submit proof of a negative COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test no more than 48 hours prior to attending the workplace on any given day. Any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to adhere to established City protocols and guidance provided by the Province of Manitoba.

“We want our staff to be safe and healthy. We have a responsibility to provide a safe work place. We also have a duty to provide reliable services to our citizens. We believe that this policy is a reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of our staff and the delivery of critical services to the people of Portage” said Mayor Irvine Ferris

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Portage la Prairie has enacted a number of preventative measures aimed at helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to minimize its impact on our health care system and in our community. The health and safety of our employees and the public, as well as maintaining essential services, have remained our top priorities.
