Councillor Melissa Draycott has announced her resignation from City Council, effective Friday May 6, 2022. Her letter of resignation will be accepted by City Council at their next regular meeting on May 9, 2022. Councillor Draycott has sold her residence and is moving out of the City of Portage la Prairie and therefore is no longer eligible to hold a Council seat.
Councillor Draycott has served on City Council since she was first elected in October 2014. She was re-elected for a second term in 2018. Councillor Draycott is the Chair of the City of Portage la Prairie Community Services Committee and is on the Board of Directors of the Parks Committee, Fort la Reine Museum and Portage Regional Economic Development (PRED).
“On behalf of Council and the citizens of Portage la Prairie, I would like to thank Councillor Draycott for her nearly 8 years of dedicated service to our community,” said Mayor Irvine Ferris. “We will sincerely miss her strong voice around the Council table as we conclude our Council’s mandate in October of this year.”
“It has been a pleasure serving on the past two Councils of the City of Portage la Prairie,” said Councillor Melissa Draycott. “I am proud of what we were able to accomplish over the past 8 years and I look forward to seeing the city continue to grow and prosper.”
Councillor Draycott’s position will remain vacant until the next general municipal election on October 26, 2022. In the interim period, her portfolio will be shared amongst members of Council.
