A major spring blizzard will impact our region beginning tonight and lasting through to Friday morning. Widespread snowfall accumulations of 30-50 cm accompanied by northerly winds gusting 70-90 km/h is expected, creating zero visibility at times with snow and blowing snow.
Travel will become increasingly difficult on Wednesday as the day progresses, with widespread highway closures a near-certainty. By Wednesday evening travel within the City may become difficult as the heavy snow and strong winds continue, and more of the same is expected on Thursday.
Citizens are encouraged to stock up on supplies today, then stay home for the duration of the storm if possible. Do not plan to travel or leave your home unless absolutely necessary.
Snow clearing equipment and staff are ready and snow clearing will begin as soon as it is safe to do so. Crews will focus on priority areas enabling emergency services, followed by regular residential routes over the next several days.
