Citizens on Patrol (COPP)

Portage la Prairie has a very active Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) which was established in 1992. The main goal of this program is for volunteer community members to be on the look-out for any suspicious or criminal activity, to record this activity and, where appropriate, to report such activities to the police. COPP members act as additional “eyes and ears” for their community and the police, which can assist in reducing crime.

Sirius Protection and Security Services provides non-core police services for the City of Portage la Prairie including by-law enforcement, parking control and animal control services.

Bylaw Enforcement

By-law Enforcement Officers proactively enforce the City’s by-laws including but not limited to the Traffic By-law and Occupancy & Maintenance By-laws. To view a list of the City’s most requested by-laws visit the By-laws webpage.

City Parking Information

In April 2020, the City of Portage la Prairie removed all parking meters in preparation for the implementation of our new downtown parking strategy. Effective May 1, 2020, we switched to two-hour free parking in formerly metered parking spots. This initiative will encourage more people to shop our downtown merchants and support our service providers in the future.
