Prairie Unity Competition Pow Wow

This free event is the first of its kind in our region, created through a meaningful partnership between Long Plain First Nation, Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation, and the City of Portage la Prairie, as part of our ongoing work through the Community Economic Development Initiative (CEDI).

Pow wows are sacred gatherings where communities come together to honour culture, share stories, and celebrate resilience through ceremony, song, and dance. The Prairie Unity Pow Wow is not only a celebration, it is a living expression of unity, healing, and cultural pride. Whether you have been to a hundred pow wows or have never been to one, this one promises to be memorable for everyone. It will showcase vibrant regalia, powerful drum groups, and traditional dances that reflect generations of heritage and strength.

Mayor Knox, Chief Smoke and Chief Meeches invite you to join us as we honour traditions, celebrate diversity, and build bridges between cultures — because this is more than an event; it’s a powerful opportunity to strengthen relationships, foster understanding, and create lasting connections in our community.

• Vendor Market
• Food Vendors
• Dance Specials
• Indian Auction

Grand Entries take place:

• Friday, December 19th ~ 7:00pm
• Saturday, December 20th ~ 12:00pm & 7:00pm
• Sunday, December 21st ~ 12:00pm
