Meet our Host Drum: Dakota Hotain
Introducing Our Host Drum: Dakota Hotain
We are honoured to welcome Dakota Hotain, “Voice of the Dakota”, as our Host Drum for this year’s Prairie Unity Pow Wow.
Established in 1982, Dakota Hotain is a highly respected family drum group rooted in the proud traditions of the Dakota and Ojibway peoples. For over four decades, they have carried forward the teachings, songs, and ancestral stories that connect generations to identity, language, and community.
A true family-oriented group, Dakota Hotain is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Dakota language through song. Their music reflects cultural pride, responsibility, and the heartbeat of the people - shared with all who gather to listen, learn, and celebrate.
Over the years, Dakota Hotain has traveled across Canada and the United States, representing their Nations at powwows, cultural gatherings, schools, ceremonies, and public events. Their dedication has made them recognized ambassadors of Dakota language and song, inspiring youth and strengthening cultural revival wherever they go.
We are deeply grateful to have them with us as they continue their mission to share the voice, teachings, and spirit of the Dakota people across generations and across Turtle Island.
Welcome, Dakota Hotain!
