Full Time Landfill Operator

The Portage la Prairie Regional Landfill is a modern waste management facility located approximately 27 kilometers northeast of the City of Portage la Prairie. Serving the city and surrounding rural municipalities, the landfill plays a vital role in the region’s environmental management. We are currently accepting applications for the position of a Landfill Operator. This is a full-time position with a seasonal work schedule:

• Summer Hours (April 1 – October 31) 50 hours per week, Monday through Saturday
• Winter Hours (November 1 – March 31) 45 hours per week, Monday through Saturday

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba driver’s licence.
• Clear driver’s abstract.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks as required.
• Must be able to work in a team environment.
• The ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment is required for this position.
• The incumbent is required to operate in a computerized environment and shall have a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
• Some filing and data entry will be required.
• Must ensure that good relations are maintained with the general public.
• Must be willing to be assertive when directing haulers at the landfill.
• Must have or being willing to take the Swana Landfill Operator Course and Safety Courses as required.

The Portage la Prairie Regional Landfill Authority offers a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications with a current wage range of $26.40 – $28.16 per hour.
