We're Hiring - Labourer - Seasonal Position (June-Sept)

The City of Portage la Prairie is accepting resumes for the position of Labourer for the 2025 season at the Water Pollution Control Facility. Under the close supervision of designated City staff, this position will primarily be responsible for:

  • Manual labour (eg- shoveling wet sand/grit, washing down basins, shovel gravel) 
  • Site maintenance- Painting, clean-up, weeds/hedges/grass, tree trimming 
  • Cleaning and Organizing of Buildings
  • Equipment Maintenance- assist staff with various repair jobs using a variety of hand and power tools

Qualifications include a valid driver’s license and must be 18 years old or older for Confined Space Entry. Applicants must be comfortable working from heights and in confined spaces, capable of physical manual labour and able to work in various weather conditions. Preference will be given to applicants with current first aid and confined space training.  Hours of work are Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with 1 hour for lunch. 

The wage for this position is $20.59 per hour. This is a unionized position and is subject to all terms and conditions of the collective agreement.
