Adopt-A-Catch Basin
About the Program
The City of Portage la Prairie maintains approximately 1,524 catch basins and curb inlet basins that collect stormwater and help keep our streets clear. When these basins become blocked, they can cause localized flooding, property damage, infrastructure wear, and increased emergency response costs.

City of Portage la Prairie crews work hard clearing leaves and debris from streets and keeping catch basins clear, but it’s difficult to attend everyone of them, especially after a significant weather event.
This is where you can help!
The Adopt-a-Catch Basin Program is a community initiative that encourages residents, businesses, schools, and service groups to help keep nearby catch basins free of leaves, litter, and debris.
By adopting a catch basin, you will:
- Help reduce the risk of localized flooding
- Prevent debris from entering local waterways
- Lower maintenance demands and costs
- Contribute to a cleaner, safer neighbourhood
How the Program Works
- Browse the map below to find catch basins available for adoption. We recommend choosing one near your home or business.
- Select an available (green) catch basin and submit your adoption request. A form will open in a new window to collect your information (all information is kept private).
- Once your request is approved, the catch basin will appear in orange on the map, and you will receive a welcome email and adoption certificate.
- Click on your adopted (orange) catch basin to report when it has been cleared, upload a photo, or release it so someone else can adopt it.
