What’s the Story on Lead in Your Drinking Water?

As part of the City of Portage la Prairie’s ongoing drinking water review program and the continuing effort to ensure the City’s treated water meets current treatment standards, the City undertook testing of tap water at a few homes. In 2022, the City of Portage la Prairie expanded its current water sampling program for lead testing to meet new Provincial regulatory requirements for public water systems. Learn more about our Lead in Drinking Water Testing Program here.

Lead Service Line Replacement Subsidy

If you have a lead water service connection, you may choose to have it replaced. To provide an incentive to property owners who wish to replace their lead water service lines the City of Portage la Prairie offers the Lead Service Line Replacement Subsidy, subject to the total budget allocated each year.

The Wastewater Treatment Division’s primary responsibility is the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. Secondarily they look after the operation and maintenance of 13 sewage pumping stations located around the City. Sewer Blockage

If you experience sewer blockage problems at your home, please call a plumber of your choice.  The City will pay the plumber’s costs if the blockage is in the main line, or if it is in the sewer service line and caused by tree roots from a City boulevard tree.  If the problem is caused by roots from a City tree, a sample of the roots must accompany any claims.
