City of Portage la Prairie Launches 9 P.M. Routine Safety Campaign
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 14, 2025
The City of Portage la Prairie is proud to launch the 9 P.M. Routine, a public safety campaign aimed at preventing property crimes and encouraging nightly crime-prevention habits.
For the next six weeks, residents will receive social media reminders to take simple yet effective steps every evening at 9 p.m.:
- Remove valuables from your vehicle and yard
- Lock your vehicle doors
- Remove keys from ATV’s and outdoor equipment
- Lock all exterior doors
- Leave a light on outside
“These small actions can make a big difference,” said Sharilyn Knox, Mayor of the City of Portage la Prairie. “Criminals often target homes and vehicles that are easy to access. The 9 P.M. Routine helps build a habit that protects property and promotes community safety.”
“This campaign is about creating safer neighbourhoods through consistent, preventative action,” added Councillor Colin Doyle, Chair of the Public Safety Committee. “By working together and staying alert, we can reduce crime and build a stronger sense of security in our community.”
Residents are encouraged to follow and share the campaign on social media using #9PMRoutine, and to check in nightly with reminders posted on the City of Portage la Prairie social media pages. Each Friday, we’ll select one winner who has shown engagement by liking and sharing our posts. Winners will receive a $25 gift card to a local business of their choice!
