Traffic By-law Updates Approved by Council

The City of Portage la Prairie has updated the Traffic By-law. Along with minor amendments to reflect current practices and clarify wording, changes were made to parking regulations, loading zones, and bicycle lanes. 

Below is a summary of the key amendments recently approved by Council.

Key Changes Include:

Loading Zones

  • New loading zone at 1746 Saskatchewan Avenue W (north side)
  • New loading zone at 36 2nd Street SW (east side)

Time-Limited (two-hour) Street Parking

Added time-limited parking on:

  • Saskatchewan Avenue W between 6th Street W and 7th Street W (north side) 
  • Saskatchewan Avenue W between 11th Street W and 20th Street W (both sides) 
  • 3rd Street SW between Saskatchewan Avenue and Dufferin Avenue (east side) 
  • Dufferin Avenue between 2nd Street SW and 4th Street SW (south side) 
  • 16th Street SW (west side) between Saskatchewan Avenue W and rear lane

Time-Limited (three-hour) Lot Parking

  • Formal separation of the three City parking lots for enforcement

No Parking

  • Extended no parking zone on the east side of Royal Road from Fisher Avenue to Lorne Avenue

Additional Amendments

  • Elimination of block face parking for enforcement purposes
  • Inclusion of references and provisions for bicycle lanes
  • Vehicles prohibited from parking on the street on the business day prior to residential garbage collection (previously the day after)
